Journal of Design Practice in the Built Environment is an academic journal dedicated to exploring both the practice and theory of design within the built environment, encompassing fields such as landscape architecture, urban design, and architecture. The journal encourages interdisciplinary research that integrates design practice, spatial studies, and environmental design theory, aiming to advance knowledge and discourse across related disciplines.

Submissions are open to researchers, practitioners, and graduate students in relevant fields.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to a peer-review process and must not have been previously published or under consideration elsewhere. The journal publishes the following types of manuscripts:

① Research Articles
    Research Articles present original scholarly contributions within the scope of the journal. These manuscripts should report significant     findings derived from theoretical, empirical, or methodological research related to the built environment.
    Authors must clearly articulate the implications of their research for academia, education, policy, or professional practice. Submissions     employing qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods are all welcome.

② Design Practice Studies
    Design Practice Studies focus on realized or ongoing design projects and examine the knowledge, methodologies, or practical     implications derived from design processes.
    Rather than simple project descriptions, submissions should critically address aspects such as problem framing, decision-making,     collaboration, implementation, evaluation, or reflective practice.
    Authors may analyze their own projects; however, the work must be presented with critical and analytical rigor.

③ Critical Reviews
    Critical Reviews examine completed projects, books, exhibitions, academic events, or other media related to design practice.
    These manuscripts should go beyond descriptive summaries and provide critical reflection that contributes to scholarly discourse. When     reviewing a design project, the author must not have been directly involved in the project.

④ Perspectives
    Perspectives present critical essays and reflective discussions on emerging issues, academic debates, opportunities, and future     directions concerning the built environment.
    Submissions should demonstrate a clear intellectual stance and contribute meaningfully to ongoing scholarly discussions, moving beyond     mere opinion to offer substantive academic insight.

The total manuscript length includes the main text, references, tables, figures, and captions. The following guidelines apply, although the Editorial Board may adjust limits depending on the nature of the submission.

① Research Articles
    • Korean manuscripts: 15–20 pages
    • English manuscripts: 5,000–7,000 words
② Design Practice Studies
    • Korean manuscripts: 9–15 pages
    • English manuscripts: 3,000–5,000 words
③ Critical Reviews
    • Korean manuscripts: 9–15 pages
    • English manuscripts: 3,000–5,000 words
④ Perspectives
    • Korean manuscripts: 6–12 pages
    • English manuscripts: 2,000–4,000 words

② All submissions must include an English title, abstract, and keywords.
③ Korean manuscripts will be translated into English for publication after acceptance, with editorial support provided as needed.

논문의 구성은 기본적으로 다음과 같은 순서와 양식을 따른다. 다만 원고의 유형에 따라 이를 유동적으로 변경할 수 있다.

① Structure of Korean Manuscripts
    Title and author names should be presented in Korean, followed by English. The manuscript should be organized in the following order:
    English Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
② Structure of English Manuscripts
    Title and author names should be presented in English, followed by: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and     References.
③ Critical Reviews
    For Korean manuscripts, author names should be written in Korean. If the author is a foreign national, both Korean and English names     should be provided. Names should follow the Korean convention (family name first).
    •For English manuscripts, author names should be written in English in the order of given name followed by family name.

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.

- Article processing charges are payable only after acceptance.
- The basic publication fee is KRW 150,000, covering up to 15 printed pages.
- Additional pages will incur a fee of KRW 10,000 per page.
- The same base fee applies to research funded by grants.
- The Editorial Board may waive or reduce fees at its discretion.
